35-Day Southeast Asia Itinerary

Follow the route from Beijing to Xi’an, Lhasa, Chengdu, Leshan, Zhangjiajie, Guilin, Yangshuo and Shanghai.
Day 1: Arrival in Yangon
Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by our guide and transferred to the hotel. Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon, remains a quiet and charming city with impressive colonial and spiritual heritage. Overnight in Yangon.

Fly to Bagan and explore Nyaung Oo Market, Shwezigon Pagoda, Wetkyi-In Gubyaukgyi and Htilominlo Temple. In Old Bagan, visit Gawdawpalyin, Ananda, Ananda Okkyaung, Shwesandaw and Thatbinnyu. End with a horse cart tour past Taungbi village, Sulamani and Dhammayangyi, with sunset over Bagan.

Explore the Myinkaba sector with Myingalazedi, Manuha, Nanpaya and Kubyaukgyi temples. Observe traditional lacquerware making, then visit Minnanthu countryside village and temples such as Payathonzu, Lemyethna and Nandamannya. End with a sunset cruise on the Irrawaddy River.
Fly to Mandalay, Myanmar’s cultural capital. Visit Mahamuni Pagoda and learn about Mandalay’s skilled craftsmanship heritage. In the afternoon, visit Kuthodaw Pagoda, known as the world’s biggest book, and Shwenandaw Monastery, famous for exquisite woodcarving. Enjoy sunset from Mandalay Hill.
Visit former capitals Amarapura, Ava and Sagaing. Attend the daily meal of monks at Mahagandayon Monastery, visit a silk weaving workshop, explore Ava by horse carriage, then continue to Sagaing Hill with its many pagodas and meditation centers. End at the 200-year-old U Bein Bridge for sunset.
Fly to Heho and drive to Nyaung Shwe, stopping at Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery. Board a private motorboat on Inle Lake, passing stilt villages, leg-rowing fishermen and floating gardens. Visit Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery, Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, Inpawkhone weaving village and a cheroot factory.
Visit the rotating morning market on or near the lake, then cruise through a small canal to the Pa O village of Indein. Walk through the village and covered stairway to Alaung Sitthou, where ancient stupas are partly covered by vegetation and views stretch over the lake. Fly back to Yangon.
Visit Shwedagon Pagoda, glittering with gold on Singottara Hill, and Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda’s 70m reclining Buddha. Explore Yangon by car and enjoy free time at Bogyoke Market before flying to Bangkok. On arrival, transfer to your hotel.

Visit Pak Klong Talad Flower Market, then the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, home to the Emerald Buddha. Continue to Wat Pho and its Reclining Buddha. After lunch, cruise the Thonburi klongs along the Chao Phraya River and end at Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn.

Depart early for Maeklong Railway Market, where vendors move goods away as the train passes. Continue to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, board a longtail boat through narrow canals and traditional riverside houses, then return to Bangkok for leisure time. Optional cooking class in the afternoon.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Koh Samui. Upon arrival, you will be picked up at the airport and transferred to your beach resort. Overnight in Koh Samui.
Depart for a semi-private Angthong Marine Park sunset tour aboard classic Thai yachts. Cruise toward the park’s remote northern corner, enjoy appetizers, optional kayaking, snorkeling near Ko Wao, Thai-fusion lunch, limestone scenery, hidden lagoons and the Emerald Lake viewpoint.

Fly to Chiang Mai and visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, set on a mountain top. Reach the temple by stairs or elevator, see the golden chedi, shrines, gardens and Emerald Buddha statue, and enjoy views over the greenery below. Free time in Chiang Mai Old City.
Cycle through historic Chiang Mai on a 3-hour tour. Visit Wat Chedi Luang, quiet lanes, the Three Kings Monument, Wat Phra Singh and Warorot Market with flowers, herbs and fresh fruit. The route also reveals lesser-known local areas and everyday life.
Check out and transfer to Chiang Rai with your English-speaking guide. En route, stop at the hot springs to relax and enjoy the therapeutic waters before arriving at your hotel in Chiang Rai.
Cruise upstream on the Mae Kok River by longtail boat, passing local life along the banks. Visit a Karen hill tribe village and elephant camp, feed elephants, then continue to the Golden Triangle, Doi Phukhao viewpoint and House of Opium.
Explore Chiang Rai by Samlor, visiting King Mengrai Monument, Hill Tribe Museum, Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Phra Singha and the daily fresh food market. Continue by minibus to Wat Rongkhun, the famous White Temple designed by artist Arjan Chalermchai. Afternoon at leisure.
Board the LuangSay riverboat at Houei Say pier at 09:00AM for a Mekong cruise to Pakbeng. Along the way, witness riverside life and age-old traditions, enjoy buffet lunch on board, arrive before sunset and dine on the terrace of LuangSay Lodge overlooking the Mekong.
After breakfast, optionally visit Pakbeng Market. Board the boat at 8:30AM, stop at a hill tribe village to observe Lao whiskey production, enjoy buffet lunch, visit Pak Ou Village and Tam Ting Caves of a Thousand Buddhas, then arrive in Luang Prabang before sunset.
Visit the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum, Wat Mai with golden bas-reliefs, Wat Sene and Wat Xieng Thong. In the afternoon, visit Wat Visoun with the Watermelon Stupa, Wat Aham and Wat That, where King Sisavang Vong’s ashes are interred.

Optional early alms-giving experience at 05:30. After breakfast, visit Kuang Si Waterfall with stops at ethnic minority villages. Walk to the top of the falls or swim if weather allows. Return to Luang Prabang, climb Mount Phousi’s 328 steps and stop at the evening hill tribe market.

Fly to Hanoi and transfer to your hotel. At 18:00, join Hanoi After Dark by Vespa: explore Old Quarter backstreets, enjoy bun cha and spring rolls, taste rice wine and snacks, pass Hanoi Flag Tower and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, try pho cuon near West Lake, and end at a live music venue.
Visit Ho Chi Minh’s house on stilts, One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature and Hanoi Old Quarter. Walk past Hoan Kiem Lake and visit Ngoc Son Temple. After lunch at a local restaurant, return to the hotel around 15:00.
Transfer to Ha Long and board a Heritage Line cruise from Tuan Chau Marina. Sail through Lan Ha Bay, enjoy lunch in the elegant dining room, relax on deck, visit Viet Hai Village by cycling through a valley surrounded by jungle-clad mountains, then join a cooking class and optional squid fishing.
Start with Tai Chi, coffee, tea and pastries. Kayak in Frog Lake among vertical cliffs, jade-green water and tree-topped islets. Return on board for breakfast or brunch, transfer back by speedboat, return to Hanoi, then fly to Danang and drive 40 minutes to Hoi An.
Visit Hoi An market, interact with local sellers and learn about ingredients. Cruise by Red Bridge boat to the cooking school, tour the herb garden, join a 2-hour cooking lesson and enjoy your dishes. In the afternoon, walk the UNESCO ancient quarter, visiting Chua Ong Pagoda, Chinese Assembly Halls, Tam Ky house and Japanese Bridge.
Enjoy free time in Hoi An, once a major trading hub known for tailors, silk and leather goods. Explore custom tailoring, wander historic streets or unwind on tranquil beaches. Optional evening Teh Dar Show with acrobatics, live music and bamboo stagecraft.

Transfer to Danang Airport for your 1.5-hour flight to Ho Chi Minh City, also called Saigon. Upon arrival at Tan Son Nhat Airport, meet your private English-speaking guide and transfer to your hotel.

Join a 3-hour cyclo tour through bustling Ho Chi Minh City. Pass War Remnants Museum, Reunification Palace, Vietnamese Temple, Buddhist Monument, Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, Opera House, Saigon River and Ben Thanh Market. Afternoon at leisure.
Travel to Ben Tre, visit a local rice paper workshop, cruise the Mekong River to a coconut farm, learn coconut production and sleeping mat making, row through narrow coconut canals, bike through villages and enjoy a local home lunch with fresh regional dishes.
Transfer to Tan Son Nhat Airport for your flight to Siem Reap. Arrive at Siem Reap International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Visit Angkor Thom, South Gate, Bayon, Baphuon, Terrace of the Elephants and Terrace of the Leper King. Continue to jungle-covered Ta Prohm, then after lunch visit Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument and UNESCO World Heritage site. Proper attire is required for Bakan tower.

Cruise Tonle Sap, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake, to visit a floating village and observe local life. Learn how the lake expands during monsoon and supports Cambodia’s inland fish catch. Afternoon at leisure, then enjoy Phare Circus, combining acrobatics, theater, dance and Cambodian culture.

Breakfast at the hotel, then transfer to the airport for your onward flight, ending your 5-week journey across Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
